Last gig of the year - Painswick

We played our last gig of the year at The Painswick Centre on Saturday 10th December, and it turned out to be quite a night!
Will has taken to surprising us after leaving the stage for the quiet bit of Behind Blue Eyes - last week at Sin City in Swansea he leapt back onto his drum kit dressed as a nun, leaving Andy and Craig barely able to keep playing while Gary somehow missed the whole thing - ever the professional, keeping eye contact with the audience. Anyway, so this week we knew something was coming, so when it came we took it in our stride - this being our Christmas gig, Will was dressed as a very skinny and rather menacing looking Santa.
The surprises didn’t end there though - Will had loaded his drums with smoke bombs for the finale of Won’t Get Fooled Again, and Andy has acquired some knee pads for the Townshend powerslide in the finale (tried it without them, ouch!), as well as developing a rather tidy duckwalk thanks to this handy instructional video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPBSKl9TpO8&feature=related.
Finally, Will had prepared four custard pies for us to attack each other as we took our bows. All in all a crazy night with a fantastic audience and great vibes. We’re all super excited about getting going next year now, and look forward to seeing you on our travels.
It just remains for us to wish all of yous out there a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Who’s Next!

New Drummer!

This weekend saw us welcome Will Sealey into the fold as our new drummer. Will is a real Keith Moon-type drummer, and consistently terrifies us with his wild unpredictably.
Our first gig with Will was playing at Rob and Sarah Gillespie’s wedding, which has been in the diary since before I joined the band in September 2008! Rob and Sarah are both photographers (http://robgillespiephoto.co.uk/) and have taken some absolutely great photo’s of us over the years. It was a real pleasure to play for them, to have Rob up on bass for The Real Me, and finally an honour for me to close the evening on my uke with Blue, Red and Grey.

Classic Rock Tours good, Collaboration Festival bad

We played at the Collaboration Festival several weeks back, and while the sound guys did a great job and the audience enjoyed the days entertainment, it seems that unfortunately many of the bands, including us, were issued with rubber cheques - check out the Facebook group “Collaboration Festival - The Truth” for the gory details.
However, we did get to see some awesome bands including Lets Zep, Fleetwood Bac and The Bon Jovi Experience, and we look forward to seeing them out on the circuit again. We also met up with Eddie from Classic Rock Tours to firm up arrangements for us to play at next years Legends of Rock Festival in Great Yarmouth, and at Rhodes Rock in Greece! All very exciting - these have got to be the best tribute festivals around, and we’re honoured to be associated with them.

Quadrophenia

We did a trial run of our Quadrophenia show last night at the site of last year’s Who Convention: The Good Ship, Kilburn.
Andy has been working pretty much all year on producing a film soundtrack and accompanying film to make this show a full multimedia experience - complete with a talking head of Jimmy in between songs, and this was the culmination of a LOT of hours sat with only a laptop and a pair of headphones for company. Many thanks to Tom Matchett for putting this gig on, and also thanks to our old drummer Alex for sorting us out while we were drummerless!
We look forward to showcasing the Quadrophenia show more in the coming months and years - watch this space......

Dante!

Massive thanks to our good friend Dante Gabriel DiCarlo for standing in while Andy was at Glastonbury this weekend. We saw Dan’s old band Who’s Best at the Who Convention and were all blown away by them, so when Andy decided he didn’t fancy stomping through several tonnes of mud past a couple of hundred thousand people AND missing Pentangle, we knew exactly who to call.
Dan played amazingly and without any rehearsal - he’s an awesome guitarist, a proper Who fan and mod, and a true gentleman. We look forward to getting you in as Simon Townshend when Andy is forced to do a older, balder Pete impersonation!
